The British Embassy in Manila is pleased to announce two significant developments in UK-Philippines renewable energy cooperation. The Embassy has highlighted the UK’s commitment to promoting sustainable energy solutions in the Philippines and supporting the country’s transition to cleaner energy through two key events.
On 20 November, the Embassy hosted a dinner to celebrate the partnership between Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation and Actis, a UK-based infrastructure investment company operating through its renewable energy platform in Southeast Asia. The partnership aims to develop four new wind farms in Luzon and the Visayas with a total capacity of 380 megawatts.
Supported by a capital investment of US$150 million, the venture is a significant step forward in increasing the Philippines’ renewable energy potential. These projects, awarded through the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP), highlight the potential of collaboration in advancing clean energy projects.
The following day, 21 November, Actis celebrated the groundbreaking of the Terra Solar project in Nueva Ecija, which will be the largest solar energy initiative in the Philippines. Developed by Solar Philippines New Energy Corporation, the project is being made possible by a significant investment of US$600 million from Actis. The Terra Solar project aims to provide affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity to millions of Filipinos, strengthening the UK’s position as a key partner in the Philippines’ renewable energy efforts. The groundbreaking event highlighted Actis’ unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable infrastructure and clean energy in the country.
Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Laure Bofills, said: > “The UK is honored to partner with the Philippines in the development of renewable energy. These investments reflect our shared vision for a sustainable future and strengthen the strong bond between our countries. Projects like these not only provide clean energy to millions but also create opportunities for innovation and progress in the fight against climate change.”
Both events highlighted the transformative impact of the UK-Philippines renewable energy collaboration. The Embassy also noted Citicore’s success in securing a US$12 million UK investment through an IPO, reaffirming the UK’s support for the Philippines’ clean energy goals. Taken together, these initiatives symbolize the UK and the Philippines’ shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and a greener future for all.
