Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, oversaw the official launch of phase two of the Kaleo Solar Power Plant on April 24, 2024, heralding a significant stride in the country’s renewable energy endeavors.
With a robust capacity of 15MWp, this expansion underscores Ghana’s unwavering dedication to clean energy and the pursuit of sustainable development goals. Addressing a gathering of dignitaries, community representatives, and local leaders, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the pivotal role of renewable energy in propelling economic growth, combating climate change, and ensuring energy security.
The President applauded the collaborative spirit among stakeholders, including the local community, the German Government, the Volta River Authority (VRA), and project contractors, whose concerted efforts led to the successful realization of the project.
Highlighting Kaleo’s strategic significance as a renewable energy nucleus, President Akufo-Addo reiterated the government’s resolve to incentivize green investments while prioritizing solar, wind, and hydroelectric power initiatives.
Beyond its contribution to the national grid, phase two of the Kaleo Solar Power Plant augments power supply reliability in the Upper West Region and substantially mitigates carbon emissions. Furthermore, it serves as a platform for practical research in solar power advancement by Technical Universities in northern Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to bolstering electricity transmission infrastructure to bolster renewable energy expansion and achieve universal electricity access by year’s end.
Emphasizing corporate social responsibility within the Kaleo community, the President underscored the plant’s catalytic role in regional development and investment stimulation.
