Our Power is edited by Eugene Serbin. This page explains how our content is produced, checked and corrected.
What we publish
We publish explainers, pillar guides, news and a glossary about renewable and alternative energy, with a focus on the United Kingdom. Topics are chosen because readers are looking for them, because something has changed (a new statistic, a policy decision, a project milestone) or because a technology is widely misunderstood.
We aim to be useful rather than promotional. Where a technology is niche, unproven or has failed, we say so.
Sources
Every number, date, project status and policy detail must come from a source we can point to. We prefer primary sources: government statistics such as the Digest of UK Energy Statistics, data from the National Energy System Operator, decisions by Ofgem, official planning and contract records, peer-reviewed research, and reports from international bodies such as the IEA and IRENA. Company figures are attributed to the company (“the developer says”).
Where reputable sources disagree, we show both figures and explain why rather than silently picking one. Where we cannot verify something, we leave it out. Our methodology describes the rules in detail. Reviewed articles list the primary sources they were checked against at the end of the page.
How articles are written
Articles start with a fact sheet: the figures, dates and sources for the topic, collected from the primary sources above. Drafts may be prepared with the help of AI writing tools working from that fact sheet. A draft is not published until every claim in it has been checked by hand against the sources, and statements the sources do not support have been corrected or removed. The editor is responsible for everything we publish, whether or not a tool was used along the way.
Updates and the archive
Energy moves fast, so we revisit pages when the underlying facts change. Each page shows when it was published and when it was last updated. Some older articles from before our current process are still online; they carry a note saying they have not yet been reviewed, and we are working through them.
News items are a record of what was reported at the time and are not rewritten later, apart from corrections.
Corrections
If you find a factual error, an outdated figure or a broken link, please tell us. We correct errors on the page as soon as we have checked them. Significant corrections to a news item are noted at the end of the item.
Independence and conflicts of interest
Our Power does not publish sponsored content, paid placements or affiliate links, and does not run advertising. No energy supplier, installer, manufacturer or developer reviews our articles before publication.
Our editor works as a systems analyst at Semalt, a digital technology company that does not sell energy products or services. Neither he nor Our Power has a financial interest in any company we write about.
